About the Director
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Woodward Hall is home to the Russell Scholars Program, a vibrant living learning community. There is an application process to be selected for this program. For more information about Russell Scholars, call (207) 780-5751 or (207) 780-5752. All residents take core classes together in the hall. The faculty have offices in the hall with posted hours.
Woodward is the only hall that has a computer lab which is available to all resident students 24/7. It also has classrooms, so you can practically roll out of bed and into class. You have great access to your instructors who have offices in the building. There is a laundry room on each floor and vending machines. You also have full access to Anderson Hall (next door) and its full kitchen.
Every room has a built-in closet, desk and chair, dresser, and standard twin bed for each occupant and a room micro-fridge. Every room also has high speed internet and cable tv hookups.
Woodward Hall has hosted floor dinners, gaming competitions, a Halloween Dance, movie nights, Ultimate Frisbee competitions, field games, a challenge course, apple picking trips, and A & W Bucks for program participation and “good community” members which can be used to purchase items at an auction. There is also a fund-raising competition between Anderson and Woodward and the money will be donated to the winning halls charity of choice and members of that hall will receive a pizza party.
The building of Woodward Hall in 1955 kicked off a flurry of construction on the Gorham Campus, which lasted through 1970. Woodward Hall was the first dormitory for men. It was named for Louis B. Woodward, who taught natural and social sciences at Gorham from 1913 to 1955, and also served as Vice Principal from 1935 to his retirement.
Located centrally on campus, Woodward is a stones-throw from the student center/dining hall, the Costello Sports Complex, the Library, and campus transportation.
WHAT MAKES WOODWARD HALL A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
Woodward Hall is a great place to live because it has a super community, it’s small, and you are close to your classes.
