IMAGE TO ACCOMPANY

June 5, 2013:  The Saturn Triangle

Saturn, Arcturus, and Spica

IMAGE:  This summer, one can use the bright stars Arcturus and Spica to find Saturn.  The sixth planet forms a triangle with the two bright stars aligned along the Big Dipper's "handle arc."    As Saturn moves relative to the "fixed stars," the triangle's shape will change, albeit slowly, as Saturn is a more distant planet and therefore moves slower than the other visible planets.
