Karen A. Croteau, Ed.D., FACSM, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Exercise, Health, and Sport Sciences in the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP) at the University of Southern Maine (USM), with primary teaching responsibilities in the Health Fitness major. She is also the Program Director for the B.S. degree in Exercise Science.

Dr. Croteau's research focus lies primarily in pedometer-assessed physical activity and pedometer-based physical activity interventions: for youth, adults and older adults, in school, worksite and community settings. She is also a research associate with the Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition (CPAN) at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Auckland, New Zealand.

Dr. Croteau is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is currently the Maine State Representative for the New England chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. She serves on the Maine Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness, Sports, Health & Wellness and is also involved in program development and evaluation of the Maine in Motion pedometer program.
