The University of Southern Maine has three campuses. Residential USM undergraduates live on our beautiful Gorham campus, enjoying all of the advantages of a picturesque New England town. Just eight miles east is our Portland campus, in the heart of a city nationally known for its food, arts and culture, and outdoor lifestyle. Classes are scheduled on both campuses. In central Maine, students also may benefit from experiential learning opportunities and outstanding USM faculty close to home at our Lewiston-Auburn College campus.
The Gorham Campus
A mixture of historic brick buildings and modern architecture distinguishes this lively, tree-lined campus. Integral to the USM undergraduate experience, the Gorham campus also serves graduate students in education, music and other disciplines. Within the seven residence halls on campus are USM’s Living and Learning Communities, which enable students to live with others who share their passion for the arts, outdoor adventure, fitness and a variety of other special interests. The campus is also home to the nationally recognized Russell Scholars student success program. Students regularly travel from Gorham to Portland to take courses or participate in campus activities—a commute made easy thanks to the free USM shuttle bus service.
The Portland Campus
Conveniently located in Maine’s largest urban area, “one of America’s most livable cities,” according to Forbes, the Portland campus serves graduate and undergraduate students as well as the public at large. The campus is home to the School of Business, Muskie School of Public Service, the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the University of Maine School of Law as well as outstanding programs in applied sciences, technology and creative writing. The USM Honors House is located on the Portland campus, as are the Glickman Family Library, Abromson Community Education Center, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and many other centers of scholarship and research—resources that benefit students, faculty and the wider community. Students regularly travel from Portland to Gorham to take courses or participate in campus activities—a commute made easy thanks to the free USM shuttle bus service.
USM's Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC) offers both undergraduate and graduate academic programs in a modern complex designed to foster a supportive, close-knit college atmosphere with all the resources of a large university. A number of innovative programs, including the interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s programs in leadership studies, are unique to Lewiston-Auburn College. The LAC campus is conveniently located for students living and working in and around the Lewiston-Auburn region and provides exciting opportunities for fieldwork, internships, and study abroad. In addition to classrooms and labs, the campus is home to the Atrium Art Gallery, the extensive Franco-American Collection and Learning Works, a community-based initiative to improve college readiness and degree attainment.
