Why Transfer to USM?
The most common thing said by our transfer students is “USM feels like home!” As one of the leading public universities in Northern New England, USM offers an extraordinary faculty, dedicated to teaching and applied research. USM is committed to helping students gain hands-on experience in their field through internships and applied learning opportunities in professional and community settings.
USM is the best of both worlds—small enough to provide close-knit student-faculty relationships, large enough to offer over 115 academic programs in the nationally accredited Colleges and Schools that make up this comprehensive university.

Requirements for Admission
A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required for admission (applicants with course work completed at a non-regionally accredited institution must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75). Consideration of admission into certain majors requires a higher GPA. In all cases, emphasis is placed on the most recent course work.
How Do I Transfer Credit?
After a transfer applicant has been admitted, the Office of Transfer Affairs will complete an official transfer credit evaluation. In evaluating transfer credit, courses with grades of C- or higher taken at regionally accredited colleges and universities are considered for transfer; credit evaluations are mailed to accepted students after admission. Credit is awarded for courses taken; however, grades earned at other institutions are not included in the grade point average at USM. Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits at USM for a baccalaureate degree.
