I have been described as an adult learning geek, a person who can clear a room with discussions about how adults learn, and one who passionate about the endless opportunities to help adults learn. I consider myself a quintessential lifelong learner, both formally and informally.
In 2012, I completed a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University; concentrating on adult learning and organizational leadership. I have a Masters degree in Adult Education from the USM, BS in Resource Management from Syracuse University & SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), and an AAS in Forest Technology from SUNY College of ESF, NY State Ranger School.
Personally, I have been married to my best friend (Lauren) for 37 years, father of three great children (actually adults now @ 35, 33, and 31 years old), and grandfather to three bundles of sunshine – ranging from 12 to 19 months. I enjoy reading, movies, music, building things, anything outside – golf, kayaking, running, swimming, the beach, more… I am extremely blessed with a full and exciting life.
Professionally, I am the Natural Science Educator with the Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF). I have thirty-seven plus years of experience in positions including my current job, University of New Hampshire Extension Educator, Maine Audubon education outreach coordinator, Manufacturing and Training Manager with Stanley Tools and Cooper Industries, and owner/President of Kevin D. Doran, Inc., a conservation education and environmental consulting firm.
I have conducted numerous train-the-trainers, “How Adults Learn” workshops throughout the country. These workshops have been for hospital staffs (mostly RN’s), natural resource trainers, state agencies, university professors and staff, as well as for corporate trainers. I am faculty at both the University of Maine, and University of Southern Maine. I absolutely love teaching and consider it my life’s calling.
