Janet holds a B.S. in Community Health Education from the University of Maine at Farmington and an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Southern Maine. She is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maine, a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a National Certified Career Counselor (NCCC), a Master Career Counselor (MCC) and a Certified Corporate Coach. Her career path began in the healthcare field and shifted to career counseling after she completed her counseling degree. She worked for the Maine Education Services Foundation for six years providing career and educational counseling to clients in-person, over a hotline, and in a mobile information center. She spent the next six years as a co-founder of a small Maine company that provided individual and corporate coaching and career counseling services. In 2006 she joined the staff of the newly formed Early Student Success Office at USM and in 2009 she became a Professional Advisor. She teaches career related classes at USM and in her spare time she enjoys non-fiction, true crime books and cats.
