Placement Exam Score Interpretation Rubric

Interpreting Your Accuplacer Math Score

When you take the Math Placement Exam on Accuplacer, you will receive an Individual Score Report containing two scores and the required placement. Below you will find the rubric used to determine that required placement.

*NOTE: In the online student records system, MaineStreet, USM Accuplacer scores are coded as PARTH = Arithmetic and PALGE = Elementary Algebra. Scores can be found in the Student Services Center under the Admissions tab.

If the Arithmetic score is 59 or below, consider the following Elementary Algebra scores:

If the Arithmetic score is 60 or above, consider the following Elementary Algebra scores:

  • Elementary Algebra score is 59 or below: MAT 9
  • Elementary Algebra score is 60 to 75: MAT 101B
  • Elementary Algebra score is 76 to 107: MAT 105D, 108, or 120D
  • Elementary Algebra score is 108 or above: Any MAT 100-Level Course for which prerequisites are met
  • Elementary Algebra score is 69 or below: MAT 101B
  • Elementary Algebra score is 70 to 107:
    MAT 105D, 108, or 120D
  •  Elementary Algebra score is 108 or above: Any MAT 100-Level Course for which prerequisites are met
