The USM Field House opened in May of 1998 to complete the
Costello Sports Complex facility. It features a six lane
200-meter track with tennis courts, basketball courts as well
as practice areas for baseball and softball. Men's and
Women's Indoor Track and Field Teams compete in the Field
House. In addition, both tennis teams use the facility for
practice and for competition when Maine's weather dictates.
The Field House seats 750.
In addition to academic year activities, the Field House is
also an integral part of the USM Summer Sports Camps program
and a number of sports clinics held throughout the year. It
is also one of the university's fitness facilities with
opportunities for running and walking for exercise.
The Field House is also a frequent venue for community events
such as high school track meets, scholastic fairs and
commercial shows.
The facility was built by Harriman Associates and cost $5.5
million.
