Keene State Downs Southern Maine 16-2
GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Tony Santa Fe (Derry. N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
scored a team-high four goals as the undefeated Keene State College Owls closed
out the regular season with a 16-2 victory over the University of Southern Maine
Huskies in a Little East Conference men's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at
Hodgdon Field in Gorham, Maine.
The win was the 13th straight for the Owls who clinched the Little East
regular season title with a 6-0 mark. The Owls will receive a first round bye
in the LEC tournament that begins Tuesday (May 1). The Huskies conclude their
season with a 3-10 record overall and an 0-6 mark in conference play.
Santa Fe scored twice in both the first and second quarters as the Owls
scored 12 unanswered goals to take a 12-0 at halftime. Senior Sean Panora
(South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Alex Loscialpo (Westport, Conn./Staples)
each had two goals in the first half. The Owls held a wide edge in play in the
first 30 minutes rolling up a 35-6 advantage in total shots.
Loscialpo added a third quarter goal to finish the game with three goals.
Panora passed off two assists to finish with four points. Freshman Dax Greene
(Westborough, Mass./Tilton) was the only other multiple goal scorer for the Owls
with two.
Southern Maine received a third quarter goal from freshman Dan Jackson
(Orlando, Fla./South Kent) and a goal from sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North
Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) in the fourth quarter.
Keene State junior goalie Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
finished with 11 saves. Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) had 21
saves in the USM cage.

Colby Defeats Southern Maine 13-5
WATERVILE, Maine -- Sophomore Caddy Brooks (Darien, Conn.) had four goals
and three assists as the Colby College men's lacrosse team posted a 13-5 win
over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference game on Wednesday at
Bill Alfond Field.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Mules who improve to 3-9
overall. Southern Maine dropped its third straight game to slip to 3-9 overall.
Junior Rob Dudley (New Canaan, Conn.) added three goals for the Mules.
Sophomore Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and freshman Whit McCarthy
(Darien, Conn.) both had two goals and one assist. Sophomore Sam Kennedy
(Cumberland, Maine) and senior Kyle Haskett (San Francisco, Calif.) also tallied
for the winners.
Colby opened up a 3-0 lead after the first quarter and led 5-1 at halftime.
The Mules tallied four more times in the third quarter to pull away.
Freshman Dan Jackson (Orlando, Fla./South Kent) led Southern Maine with
three goals and one assist. Sophomore Lee Gauthier (Berwick, Maine/Noble) had
one goal and one assist, while sophomore Matt Manson (Leeds, Maine/St.
Dominic's) had one goal.
Colby rookie goalie Tom Gianakos (Simsbury, Conn.) stopped eight shots in
his first collegiate start in net. USM sophomore goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer
Park, N.Y.) finished with 21 saves.
Southern Maine will host Keene State College in a Little East Conference
game on Saturday (1:00 p.m.). Colby hosts Amherst College in a NESCAC contest
the same day (1:00 p.m.).

Plymouth State Defeats Southern Maine 11-4
PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State University outscored the University of
Southern Maine 7-1 in the second quarter Sunday afternoon, and the Panthers went
on to record their fourth straight victory, an 11-4 decision over the Huskies in
a Little East Conference men's lacrosse game at Panther Field.
The Panther defense continued its strong play, holding USM to just one goal
in each quarter and a total of 22 shots. PSU has held each of its last four
opponents to five goals or fewer, and a total of 16. The Panthers improve to
8-5 overall and 3-3 in the Little East, while USM drops to 3-8 overall and 0-5
in the conference.
Plymouth State maintained possession much of the first quarter and held a
3-1 lead. The Panthers tallied the first two markers of the second quarter, and
after a USM strike, went into the break with five unanswered goals and a 10-2
advantage. The Huskies couldn't mount a challenge in the second half.
Junior Adam Krinsky (Concord, N.H.) led the Panthers with three goals and
one assist, while freshman Wes Downing (Glastonbury, Conn.) contributed two
goals and an assist. Freshman Alex Blanco (Stratford, Conn.) helped out with
three assists.
Freshman Dan Jackson (Orlando, Fla.) led the visitors with a pair of goals.
Sophomore goaltender James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) had a busy day in goal
and finished with 13 saves.
Plymouth State dominated USM in the ground balls department by a count of
41-14, including a 24-6 margin the first half. Freshman Tim Hadley (New London,
N.H.) picked up six to lead the Panthers, while sophomore Conor McCullough
(Durham, N.H.) collected four.
Seniors Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Nick Grobe (Winchester, Mass.)
split time in the Panther goal, Valeri making four saves and Grobe five.
PSU wraps up the regular season on Wednesday at Panther Field with a non-
conference game against Lasell College (4:00 p.m.) USM travels to Colby College
in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday (4:30 p.m.) before wrapping up the
regular season Saturday at home against Keene State (1:00 p.m.)

UNE Downs Southern Maine 11-7
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Juan Lozano (Londonderry, N.H.) scored a
match-high five goals in his final home game to lead the University of New
England Nor'easters to an 11-7 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over the
University of Southern Maine Huskies on Thursday afternoon.
The win snaps a six-game losing streak for the Nor'easters (2-9), who were
playing their second match in less than 24 hours. Southern Maine falls to 3-7
on the season.
UNE would get off to a quick start, taking a 4-1 lead after one quarter.
Senior Jared Tetz (Kennebunk, Maine) had a pair of goals to aid the cause.
USM would outscore the Nor'easters 5-3 over the middle two periods to pull
within one at 7-6. Senior Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Dan
Jackson (Orlando, Fla.) tallied a score in each quarter to help the Huskies
close the gap.
The Nor'easters would assume control early in the fourth behind goals from
sophomore Mike Nawrocki (Baldwin, Md.), junior Jon Ebert (Auburn, Maine) and
Lozano. Lozano's score gave UNE a 10-6 advantage at the 5:42 mark.
Sophomore Dan Leyden (Northfield, Mass.) had two goals and a pair of
assists for the Nor'easters. Senior A.J. Gagliardi (Branford, Conn.), the
winning goalie, played the majority of the match for UNE, recording 20 saves.
Senior John Perrone (Haverhill, Mass.) made one save in final couple of minutes.
For Southern Maine, Fermanis finished with three goals. Sophomore James
Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) was credited with 16 stops guarding the cage.
UNE returns to action Saturday at Salve Regina University (1:00 p.m.). The
Huskies head to Plymouth State University on Sunday (1:00 p.m.).

Southern Maine Downs Thomas 9-4
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophomores Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Greely) and Lee Gauthier (Berwick, Maine/Noble) each scored three goals to
lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 9-4 victory over the Thomas
College Terriers in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game played in wintry
conditions Sunday afternoon at Colby College.
The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Huskies and lifts their record
to 3-6 overall. The Terriers dropped their second straight to slip to 2-4
overall.
Mayberry also passed off three assists for a six-point day. Senior Zach
Fermanis (Gorham, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) had a pair of goals, and senior
Mark Bubier (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic’s) had the other USM goal. Freshman Dan
Jackson (Orlando, Fla./South Kent) had three assists.
Senior Gunner Siverly (Bucksport, Maine) scored two of the Terriers’ four
goals while adding an assist. Also scoring for Thomas were freshman Kolby
Peckham (West Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner Area) and sophomore Mike Ross (York,
Maine) who each added one goal and an assist.
Southern Maine sophomore goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) was
credited with seven saves in the game. Thomas goalie M.J. Cain (Benton,
Maine/Lawrence) made 22 saves. Southern Maine out shot Thomas 36-18 for the
game.
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (4:00 p.m.) when it travels to
Biddeford, Maine, to play the University of New England in a non-conference
game. Thomas will host Becker College on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) for a North
Atlantic Conference game.

Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts UMD Past USM 11-7
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's
men's lacrosse team broke a 7-7 tie with four fourth-quarter goals and went on
to defeat the University of Southern Maine, 11-7, in a Little East Conference
game at Cressy Field Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Steve Colella (Wakefield, Mass.) broke the tie when he
scored a man-up goal with 11:07 to play. Senior midfielder Mark Lapointe
(Tyngsboro, Mass.) followed with another man-up goal with 3:29 remaining.
Freshman attackmen Andrew Foster (Danvers, Mass.) and Matt Leary (Framingham,
Mass.) scored in the waning moments to put the game away.
The Corsairs used a pair of goals from Leary to take a 6-1 lead with 7:56
left in the first half. But Southern Maine rallied, scoring four goals in a row
to pull within one at half-time.
Leary put the Corsairs up 7-5 in the first minute of the third quarter.
Senior Jeff Donovan (Walpole, Mass.) pulled USM back within one scoring with
7:51 left in the third, and freshman Dan Jackson's (Orlando, Fla./South Kent)
second goal of the game with 4:38 left tied the game at 7-7.
Leary had four goals and three assists to lead UMass Dartmouth. Jackson and
sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) each scored twice for
the Huskies.
The Corsairs out shot USM, 36-24. Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park,
N.Y.) made 15 saves for the Huskies, while senior goalkeeper Craig Britton
(Ashland, Mass.) made 13 saves for UMass Dartmouth.
The Corsairs improved to 5-5 and 1-3 in the Little East Conference with the
victory, while Southern Maine dropped to 2-6 and 0-4 with the defeat. UMass
Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Mitchell in a non-conference
game Tuesday, while USM will play Thomas College (at Colby College) Sunday.

UMass Dartmouth-Southern Maine Game Moved to UMD
Huskies' Game With Thomas to be Played Sunday
GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Athletics Department
announced this afternoon that tomorrow's Little East Conference men's lacrosse
game between USM and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, scheduled to be
played at USM's Hodgdon Field, has been moved the North Dartmouth, Mass.
The move was necessitated by the unplayable field conditions at USM. The
game, which becomes part of a men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader, gets
underway at approximately 3:00 p.m.
It was also announced that Monday's game at Thomas College has been moved
up a day to Sunday, and will take place at Colby College. Game time is 3:00
p.m.

UMass Boston Downs Southern Maine 13-3
BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore attackman Peter Kovach (Cohasset, Mass.)
racked up a season-high seven assists and senior goalie Nick Eaton (Rowley,
Mass.) stopped 18 shots to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons
men's lacrosse team over visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies, 13-3,
Thursday in a cold, rain-soaked Little East Conference match at the Clark
Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.
The Beacons improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in LEC play, while the Huskies
fall to 2-5 and 0-3.
UMass Boston scored the first eight goals of the game to gain control of
the contest right away. The Beacons netted three goals in the first stanza with
freshman Dale Nunn (Hillsborough, N.J.), sophomore Bobby Cusack (Braintree,
Mass.) and senior Christopher Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) all scoring.
The Beacons added five goals in the second quarter, including the eventual
game-winner from senior David Liberatore (Medford, Mass.) at 13:44 of the second
quarter. Hanafin and senior Robert Thayer (West Tisbury, Mass.) each netted a
goal in the period to give them 17 and 11, respectively, for the season, while
junior Nick Thomo (Brookfield, Mass.) found the back of the net twice in the
quarter for UMB. Sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine) snapped the
Beacons' scoring string when he put Southern Maine on the board at 4:23 of the
second quarter to make it 8-1.
UMass Boston's Thayer and Cusack tallied the only goals of the third
quarter for a 10-1 advantage and freshman Derek O'Leary (Melrose, Mass.) netted
his first collegiate goal for the Beacons to open the fourth quarter's scoring
at the 12:11 mark, while Nunn followed with another UMB goal at 8:44 to give the
Beacons a 12-1 lead.
Huskies' sophomore Lee Gauthier (Berwick, Maine) sandwiched a pair of goals
around Nunn's third score of the game to close out the game for a 13-3 final.
Kovach added seven ground balls to his day for UMass Boston, while Thayer
tallied three points on a pair of goals and an assist in addition to seven
ground balls. Cusack, Hanafin and Thomo each netted two goals to go with goals
by Liberatore and O'Leary. Freshman James McCarthy (Newton, MA) chipped in with
an assist as well.
Gauthier led Southern Maine with a pair of goals and added seven
groundballs, while Mayberry also came up with seven groundballs to go with a
goal. Senior Jeff Donovan (Walpole, Mass.) contributed with an assist and five
ground balls. Sophomore goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) turned away
10 shots for the Huskies.
The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when they host
Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference tilt at the Clark Athletic
Center Field. Southern Maine hosts the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on
Saturday (1:00 p.m.).

Southern Maine Sinks Maine Maritime 14-5
PORTLAND, Maine -- Sophomore attack Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth,
Maine/Greely) scored a single-game record nine points as the University of
Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners 14-5 in a
non-conference men's lacrosse game Tuesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium in
Portland, Maine.
The win snapped the Huskies' two-game losing skid and improved their
overall record to 2-4. The Mariners dropped their fourth straight game to fall
to 2-5.
Mayberry scored five goals and passed out four assists for his nine points,
eclipsing the former single-game record of eight points held by three players.
He collected three goals and an assist in the first half, and two goals and
three assists in the second half. He got the record breaking point when he
scored his fifth goal with three minutes to play in the game.
Freshman Danny Jackson (Orlando, Fla.) had five goals for USM, senior Zach
Fermanis (Gorham, Maine/NYA) had two goals, and sophomore Lee Gauthier (Berwick,
Maine/Noble) had a goal and three assists.
For the Mariners, juniors Nate Bolduc (Farmington, Maine) and Garrett Lake
(Farmington, Maine) each had two goals.
Sophomore goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) made 12 saves for USM.
Junior Patrick Jones (Kennebunk, Maine) was credited with eight saves for Maine
Maritime.
Jackson and Mayberry scored in the opening four minutes of the game to give
USM a quick 2-0 advantage. After Bolduc cut the margin to 2-1 with his first
goal, Jackson and Mayberry added goals before the end of the period to make it
4-1.
In the second period, Lake pulled the Mariners to within two 2:02 into the
frame with a man-up goal. USM scored the next three (Mayberry and two by
Jackson) to raise its lead to 7-2, but Lake and senior Brandon Hamilton
(Skowhegan, Maine) scored in the final 2:56 to make it 7-4 at halftime.
Southern Maine scored the only two goals of the third period, and pulled
away in the fourth period outscoring MMA 5-1 to account for the final tally.
The Huskies are scheduled to play at the University of Massachusetts Boston
on Thursday (3:00 p.m.). the Mariners travel to Becker College on Thursday
(3:30 p.m.).

Western Connecticut Downs Southern Maine 21-4
DANBURY, Conn. -- Freshman Adam Lanehart (Redding, Conn.) scored a hat
trick before the close of the first quarter, then went on to score a total of
five goals to lift the Western Connecticut State University Colonials men's
lacrosse team to a 21-4 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies at
the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Colonials, now 6-4 overall and 1-2 in
the Little East Conference, raced out to a 6-0 advantage before the Huskies
would get on the scoreboard.
Freshman A. J. Barbieri (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) added three goals and two
assists while junior Ron Pac (Glastonbury, Conn.) chipped in a trio of goals and
an assist for the winners.
Other multiple goal scorers for Western Connecticut included senior John
Stashenko (Norwalk, Conn.), sophomore Michael Nazzaro (Trumbull, Conn.) and
freshman John McGrath (Wantagh, N.Y.), each scoring twice.
Sophomore Kyle Wood (Hyde Park, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal for
Western Connecticut after making five saves before yielding to freshman Eddie
Boyle (East Islip, N.Y.) and later, rookie Drew Doyon (Danbury, Conn.) in the
second half. Boyle made two stops while Doyon turned away one attempt.
Sophomore Lee Gauthier (Denver, Colo.) led Southern Maine with two goals on
the afternoon.
Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) made six saves through three
quarters for the Huskies, who fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the league. Junior
Rob Dorr (Evanston, Ill.) made four stops in the final frame.

Men's Lacrosse Game Moved to Western Conn.
GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Athletics Department
announced today that the Saturday's (April 7) home men's lacrosse game between
USM and Western Connecticut State University has been moved due to the unplay-
able field conditions at USM.
The game will be played Saturday at Western Connecticut (Danbury, Conn.) as
part of a women's and men's lacrosse doubleheader. The women's game will start
at 12:00 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3:00 p.m.
It was also announced that the Wednesday's USM-Plymouth State game
postponed due to the snow storm has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 22,
starting at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played at Plymouth State.

Eastern Connecticut Downs Southern Maine 20-11
WILLIIMANTIC, Conn. -- Senior attack Dave Carpenter (Redding, CT/Joel
Barlow) contributed to nine goals by scoring one and assisting on eight others
as the Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team opened defense
of its 2006 Little East Conference championships with a 20-11 win over the
University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field.
Coming off a 17-6 loss to nationally-ranked Western New England College
Friday night, Eastern Conn. (3-5, 1-0 little east) won its 46th conference game
in 48 outings over a seven-year period, and remained undefeated all-time at home
against conference competition.
Eastern got goals from seven different players in racing to a quick 8-1
lead one minute into the second period. Southern Maine (1-3, 0-1 little east)
battled back to within five goals, 14-9, before the Warriors scored four in a
row to open up an 18-9 lead with 6:39 left.
Carpenter, who set a program record with his 127th career assist Friday
night, added eight more against Southern Maine. The assist total is one shy of
his program match record, set in 2004.
Sophomore midfielder D.J. Simmons (Mystic, Conn./Fitch HS) led Eastern with
five goals, and sophomore attack Matthew Savage (Southington, Conn./Southington
HS) added four. Carpenter, Simmons and Savage share the Eastern lead with 15
goals apiece.
Senior attack Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) led the
Huskies with four goals and two assists. Fermanis scored twice in a span of 53
seconds early in the third period - the second one on an extra-man opportunity -
to pull the Huskies to within 11-6.
Eastern visits Western Connecticut State University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
in a Little East Conference match. Southern Maine travels to Plymouth (N.H.)
State University on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) for an LEC contest.

Southern Maine Downs Mitchell 18-2 for First Win
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine)
scored four goals and dished out two assist to lead the University of Southern
Maine Huskies to an 18-2 victory over the Mitchell College Pequots in a non-
conference men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon in New London, Conn.
The win was the first of the season for the Huskies (1-2) and first-year
head coach Malcolm Chase. The Pequots fall to 0-2.
Mayberry and freshman Alex Pleau (Lewiston, Maine) scored in the opening
seven minutes to give USM an early 2-0 lead. After Paul Patini put Mitchell on
the board with 7:32 remaining in the first period, USM scored the next eight
goals to take firm control of the game. The Huskies led 13-2 at halftime.
Mayberry had all four of his goals in the opening half, and senior Matt Soule
(Denmark, Maine) tallied three times.
The Huskies had a balanced offense as nine different players scored goals
in the game. Senior Jeff Donovan (Walpole, Mass.), sophomore Lee Gauthier
(Berwick, Maine) and freshman Dan Jackson (Orlando, Fla.) each had two goals.
Sophomore goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded four saves,
all in the first half, for Southern Maine. Pat Hutton was busy in the Mitchell
goal registering 36 saves. Southern Maine had a 66-6 edge in shots.
Southern Maine hits the road on Saturday traveling to Willimantic, Conn.,
to play Eastern Connecticut State University. The game is the Little East
Conference opener for both squads. Mitchell will travel to Green Mountain
College in Poultney, Vt., on Saturday.

Bates Dominates Southern Maine 23-4
LEWISTON, Maine -- In the first varsity men's lacrosse game ever played
between Bates College and the University of Southern Maine, Bates came out on
top 23-4 Monday evening at Campus Avenue Field.
Bates first-year Nick Woods (Greenwich, Conn.) scored the first nine points
of his collegiate career, tallying six goals and three assists to lead the Bates
attack.
The Huskies (0-2) scored the game's first goal, an unassisted tally by
junior Rob Dorr (Evanston, Ill.) just 1:03 into the contest, but Bates scored
the game's next 14 goals. The Bobcats (3-1) outshot the Huskies 36-15.
Senior Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine) scored two goals for Southern Maine
and sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine) added another score.
Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) made 12 saves.
Also scoring multiple points for Bates were first-year Nick Sampson
(Yarmouth, Maine) with three goals and one assist; senior Matt Erisman
(Nantucket, Mass.) with three goals; first-year Tyler Moore (North Andover,
Mass.) with two goals and two assists; first-year David Barrett (Chatham, N.J.)

Franklin Pierce Pulls Away From Southern Maine 19-10
PORTLAND, Maine -- Senior Michael Willis (Hingham, Mass.) and junior Luke
Ferreira (Farmington, Maine) each scored four goals as the Franklin Pierce
College Ravens pulled away in the second half to post a 19-10 victory over the
University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's lacrosse game
Friday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Maine.
The win levels the Ravens' record at 1-1. The game was the season-opener
for the Huskies who had their first three games postponed.
Leading 9-6 at halftime, the Ravens saw their lead cut to one as USM got
goals from sophomore Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and senior
Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine/NYA) in the opening six minutes of the third
quarter.
Willis scored three straight goals in a span of 1:44 to ignite a stretch of
eight straight goals by the Ravens. Willis's fourth goal of the game five
minutes into the fourth period gave the Ravens a
17-8 lead. Freshman Brian Rooney (Newton, Mass.), who had three goals in the
game, scored twice during the run.
Sophomore Ryan Boller (New Canaan, Conn.) had three goals, all in the first
half, and two assists for the Ravens. Ferreira scored twice in each half and
dished out two assists for a six-point game.
Southern Maine was paced offensively by freshman attack Danny Jackson
(Orlando, Fla.) who became the fifth individual in school history to score six
goals in a single game. Fermanis finished the game with two goals.
Senior goalie Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md.) played a big role for the Ravens
making 17 saves. Sophomore James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) was credited with
14 saves for the Huskies.
Southern Maine gets back into action on Monday (4:00 p.m.) when it travels
to Lewiston, Maine, to play Bates College. Franklin Pierce hosts LeMoyne
College on Sunday (12:00 p.m.).

Keene State College Edges Eastern Connecticut in
2007 Little East Conference Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Preseason Poll
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Keene State College men's lacrosse team edged out
Eastern Connecticut State University for the top spot in the annual Little East
Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll released this afternoon by the conference
office. The Owls received four first place votes and 34 total points to sits
atop the rankings, while the Warriors earned the final three first place tallies
to finish just a single point of the pace.
All seven of the Little East Conference coaches cast a ballot, but they
were not allowed to vote for their own team. A first-place vote received six
points, while a second place vote earned five points.
Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Mark Theriault, Keene State has
participated in the Little East Conference Tournament Championship contest the
past two seasons, winning the 2005 conference crown. A year ago, the Owls posted
an overall record of 13-3, including a 5-1 mark in the conference circuit.
Theriault led his charges to the second seed in the Little East Conference
Tournament, where they advanced to the finals. Keene State earned a berth in the
ECAC New England Tournament and captured the championship with a convincing 19-
10 victory against Wheaton (Mass.). The Owls return six student-athletes from
the 2005 All-Conference teams, including Co-Offensive Player of the Year, senior
attacker Sean Panora (South Windsor, Conn.).
Eastern Connecticut State University, the reigning Little East Conference
Tournament Champions, sits in the second slot in the conference standings, just
a point shy of Keene State. Last spring, the Warriors sported an overall record
of 12-5, while boasting a 6-0 mark in the Little East Conference to earn the top
seed in the conference tournament. Under the direction of Head Coach Nicholas
Smith, Eastern Connecticut defeated the Owls 14-12 to record the programs' fifth
Little East Conference Tournament Championship in the past six seasons. The
Warriors welcome back 17 letter winners from last season, including the Co-
Offensive Player of the Year, senior attacker Dave Carpenter (Reading, Conn.).
Plymouth State University, the University of Massachusetts-Boston, and
Western Connecticut State University represent the second echelon of the
rankings, separated by just four points. The Panthers secured the third position
with 22 totals points, while the Beacons (21) and Colonials (18) are fourth and
fifth, respectively. Plymouth State (8-9, 3-3 LEC) and UMass-Boston (9-6, 4-2)
both advanced to the Little East Conference Tournament Semifinals last season,
while the Colonials (6-9, 2-4) bowed out in the opening round.
The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (13) and the University of
Southern Maine (8) round out the preseason poll in sixth and seventh place,
respectively.

Men's Lacrosse Schedule Changes Announced
GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine athletics department
announced that today's men's lacrosse game at Mitchell College in New London,
Conn., has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 28. Game time will be 3:00 p.m.
It was also announced today that the men's lacrosse game with Curry
College, postponed March 17 due to a snow storm, will not be rescheduled. The
Huskies' March 19 game with New England College, also postponed due to the
storm, has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 22, starting at 1:00 p.m.
Southern Maine has added a game with Franklin Pierce College this Friday
(March 23) at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland starting at 1:00 p.m.

USM Names Malcolm Chase Men's Lacrosse Head Coach
GORHAM, Maine -- Malcolm Chase, a former assistant men's lacrosse coach
at Connecticut College, has been named head coach for men's lacrosse at the
University of Southern Maine.
Chase replaces Ben Raymond who stepped down after three seasons to
concentrate on other professional opportunities. Al Bean, Director of Athletics
at USM, made the announcement.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and the program," responded Chase
when asked for his reaction to being named head coach. "The sport continues to
grow in Maine and that is an untapped resource. This is an amazing opportunity
for the USM program to grow as the sport grows in the state. I hope to bring in
the top local talent and some of the best players from around the country."
Chase was the defensive coordinator/assistant coach at Connecticut College
for two seasons (2004-2005) where he "designed and implemented defensive
strategies." Prior to his two seasons at Connecticut College, he served for one
year as an assistant coach at Roanoke College. He is currently the head coach
of the Maine Select Lacrosse U19 team.
A certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports
Medicine, Chase is working with the Maine Premier Lacrosse League. He received
a bachelor's degree in business administration from Whittier College in 2001.
Chase has worked at a number of lacrosse camps and was a featured speaker
at the 2005 US Lacrosse National Convention.
Southern Maine was 2-10 overall and 0-6 in the Little East Conference
during the 2006 season.
