Head Coach
Malcolm Chase
Malcolm Chase, a former assistant men's lacrosse coach at Connecticut
College, has been named head coach for men's lacrosse at the University
of Southern Maine. Chase replaces Ben Raymond who stepped down after
three seasons to concentrate on other professional opportunities. Al
Bean, Director of Athletics at USM, made the announcement.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and the program," responded
Chase when asked for his reaction to being named head coach. "The sport
continues to grow in Maine and that is an untapped resource. This is an
amazing opportunity for the USM program to grow as the sport grows in the
state. I hope to bring in the top local talent and some of the best
players from around the country."
Chase was the defensive coordinator/assistant coach at Connecticut College
for two seasons (2004-2005) where he "designed and implemented defensive
strategies." Prior to his two seasons at Connecticut College, he served
for one year as an assistant coach at Roanoke College. He is currently
the head coach of the Maine Select Lacrosse U19 team.
A certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports
Medicine, Chase is working with the Maine Premier Lacrosse League. He
received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Whittier
College in 2001. Chase has worked at a number of lacrosse camps and was
a featured speaker at the 2005 US Lacrosse National Convention.
