Athletic Training Services
Fitness Center Venue (Warren G. Hill
Gymnasium)
Emergency Personnel: Front desk personnel are
trained in CPR and are in attendance during operational
hours.
Emergency Communication: Stationary telephone
at the front desk of the Fitness Center.
Emergency Equipment: First aid supplies including body substance isolation (BSI)
supplies are available on-site. An AED is stationed in an alarmed cabinet in
the lobby of the Costello Sports Complex. It is located at the rear of the
lobby near the restrooms and adjacent to the fire extinguisher. Another AED is
located over the counter in the lobby of the USM Ice Arena.
Roles of Emergency Care Team Members

Immediate care of the injured/ill student-athlete: Follow
appropriate first aid principles (See Injury/Illness
Emergency Protocol sheet included with this Emergency
Action Plan).

Emergency equipment retrieval: Appropriate to the
emergency
-
Activation of emergency medical system (EMS) by calling
University Police dispatch at 911 or Channel 2 on the
portable two-way radio. Provide them with the following
information:

Identify yourself and your role in the emergency
-
Specify your location and telephone number (if
calling by phone)
-
Give name(s) of injured/ill individual(s)
-
Condition of victim(s)
-
Time of the incident
-
Care being provided
-
Give specific directions to the scene of the
emergency
Direction of EMS to the scene
-
Assist University Police with directing EMS to scene
-
Open appropriate gates
-
Designate individual to "flag down" EMS
and direct to scene
-
Scene control: keep non-emergency medical team
members away from the scene
Venue Directions: The Fitness Center is located on the 2nd floor of Hill
Gymnasium. Approach campus via School Street, left on Campus Avenue, follow to
the left (South) side of the Complex, turn right on the front circle drive to
the main entrance. Back down to the Main Lobby doors. Walk through the Main
Lobby doors. Look for athletic personnel to guide you to the emergency scene.
For “boarding” a victim, it may be necessary to evacuate the victim via the
stairwell due to the small size of the elevator.
