Robertson Named USM Women's Tennis Captain
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Erica Robertson (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free
Academy) has been named the captain of the University of Southern Maine Huskies
women's tennis team for the 2009 season. First-year head coach Ron Chicoine
made the announcement earlier this week.
"Erica is a veteran and the lone returning player to the tennis team,"
noted Chicoine. "Her maturity and leadership will play a significant role as we
build the team around a very youthful roster."

quickly worked her way up the ladder to the top singles flight for the Huskies.
Robertson also comprised one half of the Huskies top doubles team.
This season, Robertson is filling the fifth singles position and is
contributing to the Huskies' third doubles team. In Southern Maine's only match
to date, Robertson won both her singles and doubles matches.
A three-sport student-athlete, Robertson is also a member of the USM
women's ice hockey and lacrosse teams. In lacrosse, Robertson earned first team
All-Little East Conference honors at defense in 2008 and 2009. She is currently
second all-time in ground balls (127), draw controls (75) and has the school
record for caused turnovers (65).

GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis
team started their first match of the season gutting out three doubles points
and worked their way to a 6-3 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers
Saturday afternoon at the Gorham High School Tennis Courts giving first-year USM
head coach Ron Chicoine his first collegiate win.
The win is the first since a 7-0 victory over Pine Manor College last
September, and the first conference victory for the Huskies since the 2005

a 1-0 record in the Little East Conference. It is the first time since 2000

in the LEC.

Talbot (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and sophomore Katelyn Ouellette (Lewiston,
Maine) took a hard-fought, 9-8 (8-6) win at first doubles defeating PSU's first

Donovan (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough).
"Tegan and Katelyn's win at first doubles really set the tone for the rest
of the match and was the key to our victory," said Chicoine. "They played with
a lot of energy and saved at least two match points. It was a great win and set
us up for the match win psychologically."
The Huskies, needing only to win two singles points for the victory, earned
three points in singles action at third, fourth and fifth singles. Freshman
Samantha Tardif (Biddeford, Maine) battled her way to a 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-4 win at
