GORHAM, Maine – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its Academic All-District Softball teams for all three NCAA divisions Thursday afternoon and University of Southern Maine senior Mary Caron (Lewiston, Maine) was among the 11 student-athletes voted to the District One NCAA Division III team by the district members of CoSIDA.
Caron is the fifth USM softball player to be named to the Academic All-District team, and the first Husky softball player to earn Academic All-District honors since Sarah McLean earned the academic distinction in 2003. To be nominated for the Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or above. Caron carries a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in the Master's of Public Health program at USM, and earned her bachelor's in Biology with a 3.96 GPA in May 2016. With her selection to the All-District first team, Caron is now eligible for the Academic All-America ® national ballot.
