Home Tissue Repositories Information

What donor information do research repositories collect?

This can vary greatly. At the very least, some limited demographic information is typically needed (age, sex), as well as histopathologic description of the tissue. Some banks have specific linked data fields, others wait for a researcher to request the type of clinical data and then the repository attempts to collect it.

Sources may include:

  • Hospital medical records

  • Pathology reports

  • Medical records from private practices

  • Patient interviews

Repositories collect donor information retrospectively, (e.g. information available at the time of donation), and prospectively (e.g. information that enters the medical record after completion of tissue donation). Prospective information is typically accessed by a link to a donor's medical record.
