A Comprehensive Approach to Developing Job-Ready Graduates
Student Experience College-level students throughout Maine will have the opportunity on a self-selecting basis to participate in this new experiential learning program that supports and bolsters their academic experience and career goals in STEM. Students, based on their determination and success, will experience a four-phase program that complements their academic experience and builds both their technical and soft skills to better prepare students to be work ready upon graduation.
Phase 1: Professional development. This first phase will be delivered through a series of seminars and workshops to develop awareness of the professional environment and will continue throughout the first three phases.
Phase 2: Campus Ventures Internship. Phase 2 students will participate on Campus Ventures project teams, develop skills, be assigned tasks related to their field of study and participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment on technical projects.
Phase 3: Campus Ventures Team Leader. This internship experience will require students to assume a higher level of responsibility on technical projects based on being successful in the phase-2 assignments, work closely with professional project managers, delegate assignments to team members and communicate progress on project performance.
Phase 4: Off-Campus Internships. The University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine will work together through the Office of External Programs at USM, which is actively registering industry partners for open internship opportunities to develop and deliver internship experiences to Maine students who are looking for a deep experience in their chosen field or interest.
