Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD)

This course will focus on the many features involved in effective and safe use of Central Vascular Access Devices. We will examine:

  • the physical composition of CVAD
  • insertion sites
  • tip location
  • proper blood-drawing techniques
  • potential complications and nursing interventions
  • care and maintenance
  • proper flushing and medication delivery techniques
  • CVAD removal

With the use of training mannequins, procedures will be accurately demonstrated and participants will be able to handle and manipulate the different types of CVAD.
