The Challenging Role of Nonprofit Supervisor

Taking on a supervisory role can be an exciting time and a productive step in your career path. You may have discovered, however, that the job comes with many challenges and no "instruction manual." A supervisor achieves the goals of an organization through others and provides a critical link between staff and management. You have new responsibilities, new relationships with administration and staff, and a new role in the organizational structure. In this class we will explore:

  • a new context for those in leadership today
  • your role in the middle between staff and management
  • the importance of planning and process improvement
  • what motivates others
  • building trust and articulating what you value
  • how your own perceptions - positive and negative - color your view of others' performance
  • delegation as a tool for staff development
