CLASS CANCELED The Certificate Program in Business Management is designed for you-the manager with a technical, liberal arts, or other professional background, but little, if any, formal business training. This intensive, five-day course offers you the opportunity to develop and understand the critical MBA-level topics within an efficient and cost-effective format. The topics include:
The fast-paced, participatory format will focus on the most important theories and business disciplines to help you build maximum skills in minimum time. A Harvard Business School case study provides a context for the work. The program provides you the opportunity to network with colleagues as well as to interact with the USM Business School faculty and other leading professionals in Maine. Douglas Chene
Joel Gold, Ph.D./C.F.P., is on the faculty of the USM School of Business. He is the radio host of WMPG's weekly show, Financially Speaking, conducts seminars, and has written numerous publications on financial planning and investment. He has been a fee-only financial planner in Portland since 1995. Ellen Gottlieb M.Ed., is co-owner of Human Resources Partners, LLC, a human resources consulting firm. She has more than 20 years' experience in organizational development, training, and management consultation. She has provided training and consultation in team development, executive and mid-level management coaching, and personnel and the law, including issues related to sexual harassment, hiring, managing performance, and terminations. Richard Grover, Ph.D. -- Associate Professor of Business Administration, University of Southern Maine. Professor Grover teaches organizational behavior in the Business Administration Program and leadership, change, creative problem solving, conflict management and negotiation in the MBA Program. His research focuses on collaborative leadership, conflict management and negotiation. Research projects he is currently working on include evaluation of collaborative leadership education and the application of conflict management strategies to health care delivery. Professor Grover¿s work has been published in a variety of journals including Group and Organization Management, Journal of Management Issues, Organizational Behavior and Human Performance, Competition Forum, Organizational Behavior Teaching Journal and Quality Management Journal.¿Professor Grover earned his doctorate in Organizational Behavior and M.S. in Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University. He earned his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut. Prior to joining the USM faculty Dr. Grover served as a professor at the Indiana University School of Business and before that practiced mental health pharmacy for several years in Columbus, Ohio. Warren Purdy Jeff Shields, Ph.D.-- Associate Professor of Accounting, University of Southern Maine. Professor Shields teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in management and cost accounting.?He has published papers in journals such as Accounting, Organizations, and Society, Advances in Management Accounting, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, Journal of Small Business Strategy, and CPA Journal.?He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, the Small Business Institute, and the editorial board of the Journal of Small Business Strategy.?He is also the Northeast Regional Director for the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. John Voyer Jim Wilfong ,has been an entrepreneur for most of his working life. Among, his most notable business achievements was to co-found the US operations of Atomic SKI and the software engineering company, Innovative Applied Science. He has been teaching for the Center for Entrepreneurship at USM and is a published author on the subject of international trade. He was a two Maine Legislator and he was the Assistant Administrator for International Trade at the SBA for President Clinton. Mr Wilfong currently serves on the executive boards of the Small Business Exporters Association and the Veterans Entrepreneurial Taskforce. Both are located in Washington DC. |
