Major Gifts

Individuals account for the majority of philanthropic giving in the U.S., and yet many nonprofits do not have major gifts programs or strategies in place. For some organizations, a lack of data inhibits the identification of major gift prospects; and in many cases, the fear of making "the ask" prevents organizations from building the deeper relationships with donors that can result in major gifts. This workshop is designed to help staff, board members, and other fundraising volunteers understand how to effectively:

  • define what a major gift is for your organization
  • identify and cultivate prospective major donors
  • mitigate your fears and make a successful ask
  • provide appropriate stewardship for major donors
  • target major donors for special gifts and planned giving
  • communicate with major donors on their terms
