Introduction to Holistic Health Care Practice

In this core course of the Certificate Program, we will explore a variety of complementary health and healing modalities and acquire a foundation in holistic philosophy. We'll examine the principles, practices and outcomes of holistic health care, as well as ethical and professional issues, placing emphasis on:

  • developing a mindful practice of self-care
  • developing a holistic approach to patient and client relationships
  • Applying critical-thinking skills to evaluation, use, and integration of complementary and conventional therapies
  • facilitating thoughtful decision making in patient and client health care choices

3. Energetic Healing and Spiritual Health - Monday, May 17

o Energy healing and vibrational medicine o Self-healing energy techniques o Music therapy and sound healing o Transpersonal human caring o Spirituality and heart-centered awareness

4. Holistic Health Care and Integrative Practice - Monday, June 14

o Therapeutic environments o Holistic communication and art of helping o Relationship-centered care o Holistic health assessments and treatment plans o Integration into personal and professional practice o Holistic health care networks

Cynthia Garner Scrimshaw,MS, APRN, PMHNP-BC, AHN-BC is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, advanced practice holistic nurse and credentialed in several integrative therapies. She currently works in a rural health care setting in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire, specializing in holistic behavioral health care and mind/body medicine. As health care provider, consultant, and educator, Cynthia has collaborated with numerous hospital, university, and community programs to cultivate holistic and integrative health care.
