This course presents a comprehensive overview of the recruitment and employment process, an often underutilized part of human resource planning and management strategy. You will sharpen your professional skills by exploring key concepts, including state and federal employment laws, the staffing process, and the legal issues of pre-employment inquiries. You will learn:

  • methods of recruiting qualified individuals
  • how to screen employment applications
  • the "behavior-based" interview process and its results
  • the reference checking and selection process
  • how to identify high-potential candidates
  • how to develop the offer and compensation package
  • retention strategies and effective orientation

Deborah Whitworth SPHR, Senior Associate at Mercer, Inc., brings over 25 years of human resources management experience with her as she consults with for-profit and non-profit organizations. Deb guides clients through compliance issues, comprehensive human resources audits, and advises on all other HR topics as well. The SHRM Maine State Council named her the 2012 HR Leader of the year.
