Social Media for Fundraising

With 1 out of every 7 people on Earth using Facebook, nonprofit professionals need to learn to effectively use social media. In this course we'll give an overview of social media, including email marketing. We'll show why this is the most exciting time for nonprofits-we can finally build support for our cause without leaving our desks! We'll examine four of the most popular social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. You'll see how each one fits in your nonprofit marketing and fundraising mix.

In just one day you will learn:

  • How to create an effective social media strategy that passes the "hit by a bus" test (one anyone will be able to pick up and follow)
  • Both how to set up Facebook pages and how to increase the chances your Facebook statuses are seen
  • How to use Twitter for professional development, market research, and generating donations
  • How LinkedIn can be help you sell more and find decision makers
  • How to Google+ can dramatically help people find your nonprofit, even if they aren't using Goolge+
  • How to make a successful YouTube video on a shoe string budget and why you should consider one even if it doesn't go "viral"
  • Ideas on how to used location based services like FourSquare for your nonprofit
  • How to create systems that streamline your social media use and save you time
  • How to measure your influence and to repeat the things that are working

You will leave this day with:

  • A familiarity with the most popular social media platforms
  • A plan on which one to focus on and what to do on that platform
  • Tips on effectively coordinating fundraising on social media and
  • A plan for keeping your nonprofit's social media fresh, even in only 15 minutes a day

This is geared for nonprofit staff members but will also be of benefit to board members and volunteers.

Beginner to Intermediate: This course is structured to help people who are only familiar with using email. But people familiar with some social media will still get advanced tips from this course.
