Mindful Leadership

Do you feel connected 24/7 to your work, multitask in order to get your work done, and define your day as information overload? If so, you are not alone. Recent research reports that 2/3 of today's employees feel "overwhelmed". They are too distracted, flooded with too many e-mails, conference calls, meetings, and other distractions. This complexity and relentless pace places exceptional demands on managers today leaving us feeling more stressed, less productive, and less engaged with our co-workers, employees and families.

Mindful Leadership is about "training the mind" to boost your attention and concentration, have more clarity, be more innovative and improve your relationships. Based on concepts from Janice Marturano's book, "Finding the Space to Lead: A Practical Guide to Mindful Leadership," this course will explore how to integrate the practice of mindfulness, meditation and self-awareness, with the practical tools of management. Whether managing employees, or leading work groups, this course will show you how to bring mindfulness into the everyday life of schedules, meetings, to-do lists, planning as well as interpersonal challenges such as listening and working with difficult colleagues and employees. Some of the tools that will be introduced during this course include; "purposeful pauses" to redirect your attention to the present moment, strategies to integrate mindful walking and desk chair meditations into the busy work day, and a four step mindful communication methodology.

According to the Institute for Mindful Leadership, leaders who have undergone mindfulness training report that it provides a "transformative experience" that significantly improved their innovation, decision-making, listening and self-awareness.

Mary Doyle, M.A., Mary's diverse background includes organizational development, project management, sales training, strategic planning and coaching senior level executives in corporations, health care settings and non-profit organizations. Her day to day experience as a manager in a large health care organization, motivating, and helping employees reach their potential combined with her extensive background as a group facilitator enables her to create a dynamic learning experience. Mary earned her B.S. degree from the University of Maine, and her M.A. in Training and Organizational Development from Emerson College. She is also a 2010 graduate of the Hanley Leadership and Institute for Civic Leadership, Development program.
