Planning Year:
Based on lessons from the Peer Collaboration Initiative's original sites, The Philanthropic Initiative redesigned the project for several districts in New Jersey. Teams in four districts are working with an external coach as members of learning communities, and then will turn their attention to developing plans for embedding this work in their local school districts: 1) with funding from Lucent; and 2) with local funds. NSRF provides training and support for the district teams.
Year One:
This year, four New Jersey districts Edison, Plainfield, South Brunswick and Trenton were awarded three-year grants focusing on student achievement through their development of collaborative cultures for learning and reflective practice. This support from the Lucent Technologies Foundation, both in dollars and technical assistance, is intended to serve as a catalyst for districts to align their instructional and professional development goals around collaborative cultures of learning communities, build on existing structures for peer collaboration, and build capacity for new structures that support teachers and administrators in working together to improve practice, with the goal of enhancing the learning and achievement of all students.
While New Jersey district teams are conducting internal documentation of their work throughout the year, the CID group will act as the external documentation team and work with the districts using a formative data collection and analysis process.
