'Percent for Art' Reception, USM Wishcamper Center
On Friday, February 3, the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine will hold a reception in honor of the installation of Civitas, a piece by local artist Mark Wethli.
Civitas is a three-dimensional wood sculpture commissioned as part of Maine’s Percent for Art program, established by the state legislature to enhance culture and the arts and to encourage the development of artists within Maine. According to the artist, the piece takes its title from the classical ideal of democratic citizenship.
An acclaimed painter and public artist, Wethli lives and works in Brunswick and serves as the A. LeRoy Greason Professor of Art at Bowdoin College.
The reception is open to the public and will include a brief program at 4 p.m., cash bar, and light refreshments.
