As a new major, will I have an advisor?
Advisor assignments are typically made in September for new students. This information can be found on DSIS (http://www.maine.edu/dsis/). If you have trouble with your PIN, call the registrar's office for assistance (207-780-5230). Login and select "academic program" from the menu.

You will be assigned an advisor from the University's Advising Services until first year requirements are complete. After the requirements are met, you will be assigned a faculty advisor.

When will I be able to preregister for next semester's classes?
If you are a currently matriculated student, during the regularly scheduled preregistration advising times. In the fall, that time normally occurs in November. In the spring, that time normally occurs in April.

What career opportunities will I have with a Communication or
Media Studies degree?

Will I be able to transfer my coursework from other institutions into
this major?

Working in conjunction with each other, University Transfer Affairs and the Department will determine what courses transfer into the department. Up to twelve credit hours of transfer credits can be applied towards the Department's majors. Any additional courses accepted will count as University electives.

In the Department of Communication and Media Studies, will I receive a degree in both COM and MES?
No. Unless you major in both Communication and Media Studies (double major or double degree), you will only receive a degree in one major.
