Dennis Gilbert Wins 2016 Donald Harward Faculty Award
Dennis Gilbert, Lecturer in Media Studies, has won the 2016 Donald Harward Faculty Award from the Maine Campus Compact. The Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence recognizes faculty who integrate community or public service into the curriculum and who work to institutionalize service-learning. Award recipients have shown clear evidence of reflection, community benefit, reciprocity with community partners, and a commitment to advocating for service-learning and/or community action on campus and beyond.
Meet Maine Association of Broadcasters Award Winner Colin Mader
Colin Mader was selected as one of two Maine Association of Broadcasters Award recipients for the Spring 2016 semester. Concerning Mader, Professor of Media Studies David Pierson said, "I have no doubt that Colin will become a noteworthy filmmaker. Colin is serious, passionate, and very talented with a keen eye for visual storytelling. I'm looking forward to seeing his work in regional and national film festivals. "
Meet Maine Association of Broadcasters Award Winner Sokhean Ouk
The faculty teaching Media Studies courses had the honor of selecting two recipients for the Maine Association of Broadcasters Award this past fall. The Maine Association of Broadcasters provides funding for an outstanding Media Studies major interested in pursing work in the broadcasting field post-graduation. Sokhean “Jonny” Ouk was one of these esteemed recipients. He is pursuing a degree in Media Studies with minors in Communication Technology, and Audio and Video Production. Dr. David Pierson Promoted to Professor
Dr. David Pierson, Associate Professor of Media Studies, has been approved for a promotion to full professor effective September 1, 2016. David's current research interests are the rhetorical, discursive, and aesthetic dimensions of broadcast and cable television programming. He is also interested in television's representation of history. Helping students to discover the complex connections between academic theory and practice is a primary goal of Pierson’s teaching.
