How to talk to the World

When you use Pegasus Mail (or any other POP3 mail client such as Netscape Mail or Micorsoft Mail) from home, you don't have to stay connected to the modem pool all the time. You only have to be connected when you are downloading your new mail or when you are sending mail out to other people. When you create a new mail file in Pegasus Mail and click on the send button it does not get sent out automatically. It gets placed in a queue so that you can create a bunch of mail files and send them all at one time to save on the amount of time you are connected to the modem pool.

The toolbar at the top of the Pegasus Mail window contains three icons to send and receive mail:

  • Send Mail Send all outgoing mail waiting in the mail queue. (Send your mail to the world.)
  • Check Mail Check your POP3 host for new mail. (Get your mail from the world.)
  • Send & Receive Check for new mail and send queued mail in one action. (Send your mail to the world and get your mail from the world.)

Windows 95 users must be running version 2.54 (Win32) or later in order to automatically disconnect. There is no built-in automatic disconnect even though Pegasus will invoke the Window 95 Dial-up Networking automatic connection. However, there is a Pegasus Mail third party extension to Pegasus which will take care of this. Be sure to read the installation instructions.

(Note: Even though the documentation says that it is beta software, it works very well.) To download the extension, click on HangUp32 ny John Navas to download.

If a 16 bit version is run under Windows 95 users will have to manually connect and disconnect from the modem pool. You can disconnect by going to the taskbar, choosing your dialup connection from the running applications, and then click the disconnect button.
