Chinese Language and Culture Program for K-12 Educators

The Chinese Language and Culture Program for K-12 educators will provide an opportunity for K-12 educators to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese, earn credits that may be applied toward K-12 World Language Teacher Certification, and use that coursework as a concentration in a 33-credit master’s degree program for teachers or a 30-credit post-masters Certificate of Advanced Study. The program will include 24 credit hours of coursework in Chinese language and culture, which aligns with the minimum 24 credits required to teach a content area.

The low-residency program will be organized as a cohort program that extends two years including summers beginning fall 2013. Summer 2014 will include a two- to four-week intensive language program at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China. Travel scholarships will be available to support student participation in the trip.
