Recreation and Leisure Studies
The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies in the College of Nursing and Health Professions offers a degree program for students interested in pursuing careers in therapeutic recreation. The Baccalaureate Degree program in therapeutic recreation consists of 121 credit hours. Upon completion of the degree requirements, the student may seek employment as an activity coordinator, therapeutic recreation specialist, or recreation generalist. Students who complete Internships under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will be eligible to sit for the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation certification examination. In addition to the degree program, a wide variety of professional recreation and leisure courses, as well as fitness activity courses and minors in Recreational Leadership and Nature Tourism are available. Students are encouraged to pursue recreation, leisure, and fitness course offerings as appropriate to their academic programs.
