ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The conference will focus on multi-strategic approaches to suicide prevention, as well as on sharing community-building and suicide prevention resources across regional university and college campuses and high schools. Working sessions will focus on both prevention and intervention. Successful response and community building strategies from experts working at both the national and regional level will be incorporated into the working sessions.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Jane R. Wiggins, Ph.D., is the Director for the Campus Suicide Prevention Center of Virginia. Wiggins earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Syracuse University and has extensive teaching and training experience in campus suicide prevention in educational settings. Wiggins uses a multi-strategic model to promote mental health and effective community resources to respond to crisis situations.

Kay Stephens is the co-author of the award-winning book Cyberslammed: Understand, Prevent, Combat and Transform the Most Common Cyberbullying Tactics. She works with parents, schools and administrators to help them identify specific cyberbullying threats and how to understand, prevent, combat and transform them. She will be leading a lunchtime discussion on how cyberbullying has affected Maine students, how it ties into suicide prevention and practical strategies educators can take back with them to protect their students.
