Profile

Dr. Sandra Wachholz received her Ph.D. in Criminology and Corrections from the Criminial Justice Center at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Her current research and publications focus on college students' concern and knowledge about climate change, hate crimes against the homeless, and the gender differentiated impacts of climate change. In 2005, Dr. Wachholz launched the Maine Watershed Project at USM. This project ran for seven years and offered workshops designed to encourage faculty in all disciplines to address environmental sustainability issues in their teaching; one in four faculty at USM participated in the workshop. She is the 2009 recipient of the Fannie Gray Award for outstanding contributions to teaching and community service. In 1989, Dr. Wachholz was a Fulbright Scholar in Sweden.
