Sandra Wachholz received her Ph.D. from the Criminal Justice Center at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She teaches Criminological Inquiry, Criminology, Law and State, Criminology in Sweden, and Crimes Against the Environment. Her research focuses on barriers to justice for abused immigrant women and hate crimes against the homeless. She complements her academic work with involvement in social justice organizations. Dr. Wachholz is the founder and co-chair of The Maine Watersheds Project. This "greening the curriculum" initiative offers workshops to encourage faculty in all disciplines to address environmental sustainability issues in their teaching. The goals of the project are to

  1. enhance faculty and student understanding of the connections between human communities and the natural world,
  2. produce graduates who contribute to the social, environmental, and economic welfare of local and global communities, and
  3. help create a campus that models the principles of sustainability.
