Maine American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8)

Event Date and Time:
Tuesday, November 19, 2013, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

The American Mathematics Competitions is the longest running and most prestigious Mathematics Competition in the United States. AMC is the only way for a student to reach the USA Mathematical Olympiad.

The mission of the MAA's American Mathematics Competitions is to increase interest in mathematics and to develop problem solving skills through a fun competition. The students benefit from the chance to challenge students with interesting mathematical questions that are aligned with curriculum standards at all levels of difficulty. Furthermore, students gain the opportunity to achieve and compare themselves through competition with students in their school and around the US, Canada and several other participating countries.

Participation in the AMC competition starts with preparation. Students can prepare themselves. Thanks to the Internet, anyone can find students, teachers or mathematicians to discuss interesting math problems any time of the day, any season. If you visit the Art of Problem Solving website, you can find students from all over the country–indeed all over the world–discussing interesting math competition problems, from old competitions, or from the latest competition any time of day or night.

For students of ages 8- 14.5:

The AMC 8 competition will take place at USM on November 19, 2013.

If your school is not participating in the American Mathematics Competitions, you may participate in AMC 8 being held at the University of Southern Maine in Portland.
