Stephen Pollock, professor of geosciences at the University of Southern Maine, was recently elected to serve a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the Geological Society of America. The Geological Society of America is an international scientific society that includes seven geographic sections with a total global membership in excess of 25,000.
Pollock recently ended his 12-year tenure as secretary and chief accounting officer for the Geological Society of America's Northeastern Section. During his tenure, the section endowment grew over 10 fold from 2001-2013 with membership in the section increasing from slightly less than 2,000 to more than 4,700 in 2013. Growth continues in the Northeastern Section with over 5,000 members.
The Geological Society of America honored Pollock with a Distinguished Service Award last October during its annual meeting in Denver, Colorado.
