The University of Southern Maine College of Science, Technology, and Health (CSTH) and Cornerstones of Science are excited to be embarking on a new partnership that will bring science and technology based information and opportunities to the community.
Our shared belief in promoting and furthering the understanding of science and technology makes us ideal partners.
Our partnership is already in full gear with the recent launch of the Science Café series hosted by the Portland Public Library that brings USM experts from across the science and technology spectrum to lead discussions with the public.
There are several avenues we will be pursuing:
- Science Cafes at the Portland Public Library showcasing faculty/staff and student research. Allowing the public to interact with those who are involved in cutting-edge research and who would like to share their knowledge with a wider audience.
- Telescope/Astronomy programs. Through the Southworth Planetarium and Physics faculty, USM provides expertise in the area of telescope use and background in astronomy. Combined with the successful Cornerstones of Science Library Telescope Program, we will be able to further the reach to public libraries throughout the state to share this expertise.
- Annual Cornerstones of Science Library Partner Summit. The annual library partner summit held on the USM campus is an opportunity for librarians to learn about the latest pathways for bringing science to their patrons.
- Providing faculty speakers as needed. CSTH researchers are excited to participate in library and Cornerstones of Science activities as they arise – panel discussion, keynote speeches, informal gatherings, etc. Science and technology are constantly changing and evolving fields and researchers welcome the opportunity to get the word out about their research.
