USM Participates in Maine Engineering Week Banquet and Expo
The Departments of Engineering and Technology took part in the Maine Engineers Week Banquet and Expo at the University of Maine on March 2-3. 2012. The Friday night banquet featured speaker was Lawrence L. “Kaz” Kazmerski, Executive Director at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, and a recipient of the World Photovoltaic Award for outstanding leadership and contributions to the worldwide advancement of photovoltaic science and technology.
At the Engineering Expo on Saturday, USM had a key presence with an entire row of tables, featuring several hands-on activities that stimulated the curiosity and interest of future engineering students. The most impressive demonstration perhaps of all was a live demonstration of fusion, spelling out the letters USM! In all over 1200 participated in the 2012 Expo. USM’s tables were staffed by Professors Dave Early, Mehrdaad Ghorashi, Mustafa Guvench, Mariusz Jankowski, Lin Lin, and Carlos Luck. Mike Wing distributed information on USM’s Pioneer’s Program. USM engineering students who also took part included Matt Araujo, Guled Elmi, Casey Govoni, Mahad Hussain, Mark Jacobs, Leo Kersey, Isaiah Marvin, Ed Meserve, Christopher Parent, Nick Randall, and Michael Schell. All this took place under the watchful eye of Dean Anderson.
Planning for the 2013 Engineering Expo is already underway and is scheduled for March 1st and 2nd at the USM Field House.
