The University of Southern Maine’s (USM) Portland Campus is its “urban” campus and has no dorms. Blocks of rooms at two close-by hotels have been reserved at a discount (be sure to mention the USM Environmental Communication Conference).

Rooms have been reserved for $149 per night for up to two people ($15 charge for third person). 
Accommodations must be made by May 20, 2009.  The hotel can provide a courtesy shuttle service pick up at the airport. This is an older, grand hotel, located on the Portland Peninsula in the Arts District near the restaurants and cultural activities of the city. It is about a 15-minute walk to the USM campus. (Go to the lounge at the top of the hotel for a 270o view of the city including the ocean and White Mountains of New Hampshire.)

Rooms have been reserved for $107 per night for one or two beds.  Accommodations must be made by May 27, 2009.  The hotel can provide a courtesy shuttle service pick up at the airport. The fairly new hotel is located within a 20-minute walk of the campus.  It is located in a slightly less desirable area with no attractions nearby, but is safe.  

Other Options
There are other hotel options in Portland. Unless you plan on renting a car it is best to stay on or very close to the Portland Peninsula. Unfortunately, June in Portland is at the height of wedding season and near the height of tourist season, so you need to make accommodations early and expect to pay a higher rate. 

There are not many budget rooms on the peninsula, but not having to rent a car makes them more comparable. The following is a list of other options located within a few miles of USM.
