How to Get to Portland

Flights:
Southern Maine is served by three major airports.  The closest airport, which is competitive on a cost basis, is the Portland International Jetport located approximately 5 miles from downtown, the conference, and reserved accommodations. At Portland’s airport, there is city bus service, taxi (about $15 to downtown), and hotel courtesy shuttles if prior arrangement is made.
Prices vary and are not always what you'd expect. Flying straight into Portland is easiest; however, direct flights from Portland are limited to the east coast, Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and Cincinnati. The next closest alternative is Manchester, New Hampshire. However, transportation from Manchester is difficult as there is no bus or train service. Car rental would be necessary. From Boston, there is direct bus service (about 2 hrs) from Logan airport to Portland (and from Logan to Portland via Boston’s South Station Bus Terminal). There is also direct train service (about 2.5 hours) from Boston’s North Station. The bus and train arrive at Portland’s Transportation Terminal, located about 3 miles from downtown and served by a city bus and taxi service.
CAUTION: Although it may be difficult, the major choke/delay points on the east coast are the New York area airports (JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark).  If possible, I recommend you avoid flying through these airports as modern air travel is no longer kind to travelers.  If you have to fly through these airports try to fly earlier in the day in case you miss your connection you have a better chance of catching a later flight.
