We're offering an updated version of the "Eight Planets and Counting" program! Humanity's knowledge of the solar system has changed dramatically within the last few years. As we know the International Astronomical Union has demoted Pluto, but astronomers have also found an array of other bodies, called "Trans-Neptunian Objects."
The omni-dome "Eight Planets and Counting" program guides you through the solar system: from our parent star, the Sun, out to the realm beyond Neptune. Along the way, we'll visit each of the eight planets in turn, we'll explore the Moon, and we'll fly through the asteroid belt.
Join us for this fantastic full dome odyssey through the solar system!

Two men meet at a park bench. A neighbor visits a suburban family. These innocuous premises become savage satire in two of Edward Albee’s famed plays. By turns horrifying and hilarious, these one-acts offer a singular vision of a world spinning off its axis. As unflinching indictments of American idealism, this is a theatrical event that will send you reeling.
Please note - This event takes place at: Portland Stage Company Studio Theatre 25 A Forest Ave. Portland
An omni-dome (full dome) presentation about the IBEX (Interstellar Boundary Explorer) probe. Launched in 2008, the IBEX craft collects energized neutral particles emitted from the heliosphere: the "bubble" enclosing the solar system. These collections enable the IBEX probe to construct an image of the membrane surrounding us. The same membrane that protects the solar system from harmful galactic particles.
How does the IBEX probe work? How does it communicate with Earth?
Join us for this fascinating full-dome show about the IBEX probe and its bold mission to explore the solar system's final frontier.
Show duration: 31 minutes
(Note: show presentation includes a night sky tour, so the entire program is approximately 45 minutes.)
The InterSteller Boundary Explorer collects ENAs (Energized Neutral Particles) emitted from the heliosphere, the "bubble" enclosing the solar system. By collecting theses particles, the IBEX probe constructs an image of this heliosphere. Explore the outer solar system with IBEX!
