Maine native Kelly Clements, the United Nations' High Commissioner for Refugees, met with students and community members during a Feb. 17 discussion at USM's Glickman Library. Clements described the massive challenges created by an estimated worldwide population of 65 million refugees. The session was covered by the Portland Press Herald and Maine Public.

The USM Department of Theatre and School of Music will present their quadrennial opera, Otto Nicolai’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” on Friday, March 3, through Sunday, March 12 on the Main Stage at Russell Hall in Gorham.

Spending my final semester of college studying abroad in Japan was easily the best experience of my life! From the people I met to the places I visited, every aspect of living abroad was wonderful. Even the mundane things like trips to the grocery store were exciting and new. I spoke Japanese every day, made amazing friends, and learned about a whole new way of life.
Taking as its starting point the relationship between two celebrated horsemen, Hotspur and Prince Hal in Shakespeare’s second tetralogy, this talk investigates how the conjunction of cognitive theories of embodied mind, the insights of animal studies, and queer theory can illuminate Shakespeare’s depiction of the human-equine partnership’s erotic content.
