At the University of Southern Maine, we believe that anyone — regardless of circumstances — who has the drive to succeed and the willingness to work hard deserves a chance at higher education.

Perhaps no one embodies this sentiment more than Steve Pemberton, whose new memoir, A Chance in the World: An Orphan Boy, chronicles the unimaginable odds and the extraordinary challenges he faced navigating a foster care system that had forgotten him, and of the educators who helped propel him to success through education.

Please join USM President Glenn Cummings for a special evening featuring Steve's moving story. Learn more about USM's inspirational work with Maine's disadvantaged youth and be part of an exciting announcement to be made by President Cummings.

This event is co-hosted by the USM Foundation and the USM Convocation Steering Committee, which is leading a year-long series of events on race and diversity.

A Chance in the World: An Orphan Boy can be purchased in advance at the USM Bookstore and after the event, when Steve will be available to sign copies.
