Cher Futur / Dear Future

Madeleine Giguère, c.1945
In celebration of the Franco-American Collection's 40th Anniversary, we asked friends and supporters of the Collection to send a postcard to the future, in a project entitled Cher Futur (Dear Future). Participants wrote a message to the Franco-American community of 2052, with messages of support and encouragement, and explanations of the meaning of Franco Culture today.
Want to make your own contribution to the Cher Futur project? Leave a message.
Here are some of the responses we received:
One’s Heritage is one’s roots. When ignored or separated, something in the soul dies. Stay connected!

J’espère qu’on perderas jamais notre belle langue. Protegez là, mes amis.

I was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. My family were descendents from Lampton, Quebec. My recollection of my Franco-American heritage is from my formative years, 1960-1980 and are best summarized with these statements: families, including aunts, uncles, cousins; church, belief in God, prayer, sacrifice; hard work, honesty; integrity, commitment, the value of education; the joy of gatherings, music, dancing, making memories, open to others; living a rich life within our means, with pride.
