What are you going to do to end the silence?

National Day of Silence

The National Day of Silence project brings attention to name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools that targets lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people and our allies. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed February 12th by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students will participate in Day of Silence events on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.

To participate, take vow of silence for all, or part of, the day on Friday, April 25th.  If your job, class or other commitments don't allow for you to remain silent, support others who are or share information about the Day.

Download a pledge card (as a MS Word document) for USM's participation in the Day of Silence.
