Gary J. Johnson has a Ph.D. in Ancient (Classical) History from the University of Michigan and a particular research interest in the nature and functions of ancient religion(s). He teaches several upper-level courses involved with ancient religions, the Roman Empire, Classical Greece, and introductory courses on the history of Western Civilization and the Islamic Near East. His most recent invited publications are articles on "Eusebius of Nicomedia" and "Christian Funerary Inscriptions" for the Encyclopedia of Ancient History (Wiley-Blackwell) and on "Phrygia" for Reallexikon fϋr Antike und Christentum.
