USM is the comprehensive regional and urban institution in the University of Maine System which is comprised of eight academic units on three campuses. The Portland campus is located in Maine’s largest city (population 65,000), within a thriving economic and cultural region of the state, on beautiful Casco Bay. Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering #9909 The University of Southern Maine Department of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering to begin in September 2010. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or similar discipline by date of employment. There is particular interest in individuals with expertise in electromechanical systems. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a broad range of mechanical engineering courses and who have industrial experience. The successful candidate should show promise for excellence in teaching, service and scholarly activity. This is a new baccalaureate program which was approved by the trustees in January of 2006. Candidates will be expected to develop new courses and participate in curriculum development.
