SUBJECT:  SPACE ALLOCATION

Although space may be assigned to individuals or groups for
general or special purpose activities, such an assignment is
never permanent.  Space purposes may be re-defined and
re-allocated at any time in accordance with the following:

1.  Requests for space are submitted to the Space Committee
     through the Space Scheduling Officer.

    Space Committee:

    Purpose:  The University Space Committee is advisory to the
               President in matters concerning the purpose,
               allocation/assignment, use, and long range
               planning for University owned and/or controlled
               space.

    Responsibility:  The Space Committee is responsible for the
               allocation and assignment of all University space
               to the following categories:

                  o  Special Purpose; i.e., laboratories,
                     offices, etc.

                  o  Restricted General Purpose; i.e., theatre,
                     gymnasium, etc.

                  o  General Purpose; i.e., classrooms, assembly
                     areas, etc.

2.  Office space previously assigned to a particular unit may be
reassigned within that unit with the approval of the unit head.
Such reassignments must be communicated to the Coordinator of
Space and Scheduling.

3.  Reassignment of office space assigned to different units must
be approved by both unit heads and registered with the
Coordinator of Space and Scheduling.

4.  Conversion of space to a different purpose must be approved
by the Space Committee.  If conversion involves renovation and/or
alteration, the proper documentation must be simultaneously
submitted to the Renovation/Alteration Committee.

5.  As appropriate, consideration of space decisions should
include consultation with appropriate University administrators
to assure compliance with Federal and State statutes specific to
the "accessibility" of University programs and services.
