Spend Winter Session Abroad!

Did you know that you can take USM courses overseas this winter session? There are still a few spots available for our travel programs in England and Belize.

Join USM's Russell Scholars Program in Wroxton, England this winter session and earn core credits! This fantastic program offers students the opportunity to study literature, history, political science, art, and religion in the heart of England. We will spend three days in London, visiting some of London's historic attractions and then spend the rest of the time in the quaint village of Wroxton. Throughout the program, we will take many field trips to sites such as Warwick Castle, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Stonehenge. Students will earn six core credits in the humanities and social sciences: RSP 300H (3 credits) and RSP 305J (3 credits). You do not need to be in the Russell Scholars Program to apply.

If you are interested in service-learning, join the social work department for their three-credit course in Belize. This course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students and you do not need to be a social work major to apply. Through this course, students will learn about the high incidence of child abuse and neglect in Belize, services for the elderly, programs/schooling for adolescents, concerns around domestic violence, and positive efforts toward helping women develop independence through building income-producing skills and enterprises. While in Belize, we will work with a facility for abused, neglected, and abandoned children and adolescents and also engage with a local women's enterprise group called the MAMA's. Students will earn three social work credits: SWO 399 or SWO 599.

Both programs include airfare, accommodation, most meals, excursions, and in-country transportation. Out-of-state students are extended tuition at the in-state rate for all travel programs.

More information on the programs and applications are available at the winter session website: www.usm.maine.edu/winter/international.

Please contact Larisa Kruze, Assistant Director of International Programs, with any questions: 780-5942 or lkruze@usm.maine.edu.

We hope that you'll consider these excellent opportunities!
