Paying Your Bill

There are many ways to pay your bill at USM and we are happy to talk with you individually about what works best for you. Here are a few of the options so that you can discuss them with your family before you depart:

1. Payment via Wire Transfer

 Wire Transfer is a very popular option for our international students. 

That means your family can send payment for tuition & fees and on campus housing and a meal plan directly to the University's billing office. They can only wire funds for the costs noted above. Personal money for books or spending should be sent directly to you.

Account numbers needed to wire funds are available online.  

2. Payment via Credit or Debit Card

By logging into "Maine Street" you can pay your bill online using a credit or debit card. Debit and credit card payments cannot be accepted by USM staff in person, through the mail or over the phone.

Students will be charged a 2.75% (minimum $3.00) non-refundable convenience fee for all credit or debit card payments made to a student account.

Cards accepted are: MasterCard/Discover/American Express. VISA is not accepted.

3. Payment via Electronic Check/ACH

 An electronic debit to a checking or savings account can be made online by logging on to the MaineStreet Student Center. There is no fee for this service.

4. Cash or Paper Check

USM accepts cash, but please do not send it through the mail.

We also accept personal checks, money orders, cashier's checks and traveler's checks. Please make checks payable to the University of Southern Maine and mail to USM Student Accounts Office, PO Box 9300, Portland Maine  04104-9300.  International checks or foreign bank drafts must clearly state that the amount is in US Dollars. 

Be sure to include the student ID number on the face of the check. We will not accept post dated checks.

 


 

PAYMENT PLANS

USM offers three convenient payment plans each semester (3, 4 or 5 payments).  Each payment plan has a non-refundable set up fee of $30.00 per semester.  Payments are divided into equal installments with the set-up fee payable with the first installment.

You can sign up for a payment plan online via your Maine Street account or you can visit one of the Student Accounts offices and ask to register for a payment plan.

Students will receive notification of billing due dates by e-mail so it is important to check your USM E-mail.

Can My Parents Pay My Bill Directly?

Yes. You can authorize your parents to have access to the financial center of your Maine Street account. They can then easily pay your bill online via a credit card or electronic check.  To do this you must "Add an Authorized User" to your student account. They will receive their own log in and password which will give them limited access to your Maine Street account.
